International Women’s Day: Celebrating the Women Who Lift Us Higher

International Women’s Day: Celebrating the Women Who Lift Us Higher

In the midst of celebrating International Women’s Day, I want to take a moment to honour a group of incredible businesswomen who have supported me not only as a small business owner, but as a mum navigating the beautiful chaos of family life.

This past year has been full — growing a business, growing a family, and learning to balance both with grace (most days!). And through it all, these women have been pillars of strength, wisdom, and friendship.

Kate Barany – Founder of Playtime Planner App

Kate is one of those rare souls who radiates love in everything she does. The dedication and research she pours into every post — helping mums discover the best playgrounds and activities around Sydney — is nothing short of remarkable.

Thanks to her, my kids are constantly outdoors, exploring new corners of our city and staying beautifully entertained. As a full-time mum herself, she has been both a practical guide and a heartfelt companion throughout this season of motherhood.

Ysabel Rojas – Founder of Snoozy Monkey Inflatable Travel Beds for Toddlers

What began as a simple Facebook Marketplace search for a toddler travel bed turned into a beautiful friendship. Ysabel, a determined mum and entrepreneur, shows up every single day committed to making family travel easier with her inflatable beds.

Life had a sweet surprise for us — she lives right across the street from my home/office. She has truly “covered my back” more times than I can count. From business chats to mum-life support, our journey has been one of mutual encouragement and shared growth.

Tatiana Burkett – Founder of Sashaboo Interactive T-Shirts for Kids

Tatiana has taught me so much about determination, discipline, and the importance of meaningful friendships. A mum of two and what I lovingly call a “digital marketing guru,” she has been a constant supporter — from playground catch-ups to deep dives into business strategy.

Having another mum in business to exchange ideas, insights, and honest opinions with has been invaluable.

Plus, Tatiana has been helping us as a Tolu Australia model :)

Alejandra Abondano – Founder of Alejandra Collective Leather Bags

Alejandra is sweetness and strength combined. She brings beautifully crafted leather bags from Colombia, but beyond her product, she brings loyalty and generosity.

During AGHA Trade Fair in Melbourne last year — while I was in my first trimester, navigating nausea and exhaustion — she welcomed me into her home and even covered my shifts at the trade fair. She closed incredible deals (including with Fijian businesses!), which led to Tolu now being available in Fiji.

I honestly don’t know how I would have managed that trade fair without her support. Her belief in me and my brand has made a lasting impact.

Jordan Totten – Founder of Blossom Play Sensory Play Events

As ChatGPT once perfectly described her: The Queen of Sensory Play.

Jordan inspires mums to let kids explore freely — without the constant fear of mess. Her creativity is boundless, and her heart is even bigger. She organises some of the most beautiful sensory play events in Sydney and has partnered with me at community events throughout the year.

Her work reminds me that childhood should be joyful, hands-on, and a little bit messy.

This 8th of March, I want to say thank you. Thank you to the women we cross paths with — especially the mums who are also business owners. The ones building dreams during nap times, answering emails after bedtime, showing up to meetings with toddlers in tow, and pushing through self-doubt quietly and bravely.

Entrepreneurship can feel lonely. Motherhood can feel overwhelming. But when we walk together, support each other, and genuinely celebrate one another, something powerful happens.

So here’s to all of us — raising children, raising businesses, and raising each other.

Let’s keep making waves together. 🌊
